The Commission Vice President responsible for Justice, Viviane Reding, has revealed on Wednesday that Spain is investigating whether it discriminates against foreign residents in the expropriation of coastal homes to the large number of complaints received by urban abuse.
Reding made the announcement in response to a parliamentary question tabled by MEP Party for the Independence of the United Kingdom (UKIP), Marta Andreasen. Andreasen had sought the intervention of the EU executive on the grounds that the land law violates the right English property, protected by the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, the Lisbon Treaty has become legally binding.
"Considering the number of complaints received on this issue, the Commission is monitoring the situation to see if there is any discrimination on grounds of nationality and has been contacted about the English authorities," replied the Deputy Executive Community.
So far, Brussels has refused to speak to allegations of violations of property rights and land rights abuse in Spain claiming that it lacked jurisdiction. The Commission reported to the Court of Justice of the European Union (TEU) only the Valencian Urban Development Law on the grounds that infringed the Community rules on public procurement. But the attorney general last week recommended the TEU to dismiss this appeal.
However, Reding has stated that "with respect to the question of title to property in Spain, the Commission can only intervene if the case concerns the application of Union law." "This connection has not been established yet," he said.

And he wondered why they were given this treatment in a 'friend and Europe. " Zapatero
considered unacceptable this comparison and noted that Spain is a constitutional state which respects and enforces the laws. "We are the first that we feel close to people, in this case British, who have been the subject of fraud by a predator in the housing sector. And in that sense we are working in the European Parliament and the parliamentary groups and will work everything in our hands, "said the Prime Minister. Reding
